Niceville Registered Sex Offender Charged with 30 Counts of Possession of Child Pornography

In December 2024, our OCSO Internet Crimes Against Children Unit was notified via the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding a user uploading sexual images believed to contain children as young as five years old.
An OCSO investigation of the information ultimately led to 53-year old John Schugmann Jr.’s home. Schugmann, a registered sex offender, was previously convicted of possession of child pornography in 2009 and spent several years in prison.
He was taken into custody on February 4, 2025, on 30 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of failing to register an email address internet identifier following the execution of a search warrant at his home on St Andrews Dr. Several computers, phones, and computer storage devices were seized as a result of the search warrant.
On those devices, investigators found extensive files of child pornography including videos of a young female who appears to be between five and seven years old.
Units from the Internet Crimes Against Children, OCSO Drug Task Force, Crestview Police Department, Niceville Polce Department, Homeland Security Investigations and FDLE took part in the search warrant.
OCSO K-9 Tera was deployed after investigators performed their initial search of the property and located multiple SD Cards in the home.
