Timpson Named Katrina McClain Top 5 Finalist

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State senior forward Makayla Timpson was selected as a finalist for the 2025 Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award on Thursday. The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced five finalists in partnership with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). 
 
In addition to Timpson, Kiki Iriafen (USC), Aneesah Morrow (LSU), Yvonne Ejim (Gonzaga) and Darianna Littlepage-Buggs (Baylor) were recognized in the top five. 
 
Timpson, second in the ACC in double-doubles finished the regular season with 15 and 46 for her career, extending her FSU double-doubles record. She also broke her own single season blocks record, swatting 91 this year.

On Tuesday, Timpson was named to her third ACC All-Defensive Team and secured her second All-ACC First Team nod. She has also recently been awarded her second ACC Player of the Week this season. No. 22 FSU will head to the 2025 Ally ACC Tournament and play on Friday as the No. 4 seed.

 

Timpson gave two 20-point performances, putting up 22 points and 17 rebounds in the upset against No. 3 Notre Dame at the Purcell Pavilion, 86-81. This marked the third ranked victory for the Noles this season and the first time in program history defeating ranked opponents on the road in back-to-back games. Timpson also now holds the FSU record for rebounds (1,066) after passing Natasha Howard (1,046) in the game against Notre Dame. 

 

In the regular season Timpson averaged 17.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game while shooting 55 percent. Timpson led the Seminoles against No.16 Duke with 25 points and eight rebounds, and added 19 points and 16 rebounds in the win against No. 20 Georgia Tech.  She captured career highs in points (38), rebounds (22), blocks (8) and steals (6).

 

The Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award, in its eighth year, recognizes the top power forwards in women’s college basketball every year. It is named after one of the most decorated athletes in USA Basketball history, finishing her international career with two Olympic gold medals and one bronze, three FIBA World Championships medals, and five medals at Goodwill Games, Pan Am Games, and World University Games.

 

Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting starting on Friday, March 7, on hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process. Each finalist will be presented to selection committees, composed of top men’s and women’s college basketball personnel, media members, head coaches, sport information directors and Hall of Famers.
