TALLAHASSEE – Redshirt junior Joey Volini matched a career high with 11 strikeouts and sophomore third baseman Cal Fisher had three extra-base hits – including a sixth-inning grand slam – to lead Florida State (14-0) to a 10-1 win over Lipscomb (4-9) Friday evening at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles are one of four remaining undefeated teams in the nation.

For the second consecutive game, Volini (4-0) struck out 11 batters, the most for a Seminole this season. Over a career-high 7.0 innings, he allowed six hits and one run, a solo home run in the second inning. In the seventh, Volini needed just 10 pitches to strike out the side.

Fisher led the Seminole offense, finishing 3-for-5 with two doubles and his first career grand slam. Knotted at 4-1 since the second inning, Fisher’s slam pushed the Florida State lead to 8-1 and put the game out of reach.

Max Williams, Gage Harrelson and Myles Bailey each had a pair of hits for Florida State. Williams added his team-high fifth home run of the season in the eighth inning.

Shortstop Alex Lodise added two RBI, Harrelson scored a pair of runs and nine-hole hitter BJ Gibson drew three walks.

Florida State and Lipscomb play game two of the series Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
