No. 18 Alabama Takes Opening Round Lead at The Hayt
PONTE VEDRA, Fla. – The No. 18 Alabama men’s golf team carded a score of 9-under par 279 to take the lead after Saturday’s opening round of The Hayt. Three Crimson Tide golfers are among the top 10 individuals, led by Jonathan Griz who holds the clubhouse lead after carding a 5-under par 67.
In addition to Griz, Dominic Clemons is in sixth at 3-under 69 while Connor Brown is in seventh after carding a career-low round of 2-under 70 on day one.

First Round Highlights
- The Crimson Tide recorded three eagles from three different players on round one
- Dominic Clemons and Connor Brown each scored a three on the par 5 544-yard ninth hole, while Nick Gross collected his on the 463-yard par 4 13th hole
- Jonathan Griz led the field with eight birdies, including five on the front nine, to go with three bogeys on his way to collecting his team-leading seventh round in the 60s and 11th round of par or better
- He will take a one-stroke lead over four different players into the second round
- Jones Free is in 25th at 1-over par 73, while Gross rounds out the Tide starters in 48th position after carding a 3-over 75
- Gross’ round including an eagle, four birdies, seven bogeys and a double bogey

- The Crimson Tide hold a four-shot lead over No. 28 Duke (-3), while No. 14 South Carolina (-2), No. 9 Virginia (-1), No. 8 North Carolina (+2) and No. 4 Texas (+3) round out the top six teams
- UA bested the field on combined par 4 (+2) and par 5 (-12) scoring in round one
- The Tide also lead all teams in total birdies (21) and eagles (3) while ranking tied for last in bogeys (17) and double bogeys (2)
