NATIONALY-RANKED SEMINOLES

HOT START FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
FSU is unbeaten with a 15-0 record. Florida State is joined by Tennessee as the only two teams without a loss. Last year, the Seminoles opened the year 19-0 and were the last undefeated team in the country.

For the first time in program history, FSU has started back-to-back seasons at 13-0 or better, with this year’s mark going along with 2024’s 19-0 start. Florida State had two back-to-back years of 12-0 starts or better before the current two-year run eclipsed that, in 2007-08 and 2018-19.

Florida State is 15-0 for the fifth time in school history. The record start is 23-0 to begin to the 2007 campaign, followed by last year’s 19-0. The 2013 team opened on a 16-0 run, while the 1975 club’s 15-0 mark has now been matched.

NOLES BY THE NUMBERS
Florida State has scored 140 runs on 185 hits with a .345 batting average, 21 home runs, 80 walks and 27 stolen bases. The pitching staff owns a 2.45 ERA with 36 earned runs allowed in 132.0 innings with 93 hits, 181 strikeouts and 50 walks.

Junior infielder Alex Lodise leads the team with a .444 batting average and 28 hits. Junior outfielder Max Williams paces the team with five home runs while junior infielder Drew Faurot leads the squad with 19 RBI. Junior outfielder Gage Harrelson has a hit in all 15 games and Lodise is just behind him with a 14-game hit streak. On the mound, junior lefty Joey Volini is 4-0 with a 1.16 ERA in four starts, and sophomore left-hander Wes Mendes is 3-0 with a 0.89 ERA in four starts. Volini and Mendes both have 35 strikeouts. Among relievers, junior righty Maison Martinez has a 0.87 ERA in 10.1 innings with one run on seven hits with 15 strikeouts.

SERIES HISTORY VS. FLORIDA
Florida State is 134-127-1 all-time against Florida with a 72-42-1 mark in Tallahassee. FSU won all three meetings last year after UF won the previous four. Since 2020, when the Seminoles won that year’s only game, 2-0 in Gainesville, the series is knotted at 6-6.

Last year, FSU opened with a 12-8 win at eighth-ranked UF on March 12. Faurot had three hits and Lodise drove in three runs to help lead the way. Two weeks later, on March 26 in Jacksonville, a 14-3 eight-inning win for No. 17 Florida State over No. 6 Florida was powered by a two-hit, five-RBI day from Faurot, and Jaxson West added three hits. Joe Charles picked up the win in 2.0 shutout innings in relief. The finale on April 9 at Howser saw another run-rule victory for the No. 10 Seminoles over the No. 24 Gators behind a four-RBI, two-hit day for West and a three-hit showing for Faurot.

Tuesday is the first top-10 matchup between the two in-state foes since March 12, 2019, when No. 6 FSU traveled to No. 7 UF.

SCOUTING THE GATORS
Florida comes to Tallahassee with a 15-2 record and a 2-1 mark away from home. The Gators have won four in a row after a two-game losing streak, with a weekend sweep of Harvard. Following a 13-7 loss to Miami and a 13-3 defeat at UCF, UF downed Florida Atlantic 4-2. From March 7-8, Florida beat Harvard 12-0, 7-0 and 22-6, all in seven innings.

Brody Donay leads the team with a .442 batting average and is second with 23 hits and third with 16 RBI. Colby Shelton’s 24 hits and 10 doubles paces the team, and Bobby Boser has a squad-best 24 RBI and seven home runs. On the mound, Liam Peterson is 4-0 with a  0.86 ERA with four starts. In 16.1 innings with six appearances, one start, Aidan King is 3-0 with a 0.55 ERA.

UP NEXT: ACC PLAY BEGINS
The Seminoles open ACC action this weekend against Boston College. The series begins on Friday, March 13 at 6 p.m. ET, followed by game two on Saturday at 2 p.m. The finale is on Sunday, March 16, with first pitch now at 12 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: A FOURTH WEEKEND SWEEP
FSU swept its fourth non-conference series to begin the series with two wins over Lipscomb. The weekend began with an 10-1 win on March 7, as Volini struck out 11 and sophomore third baseman Cal Fisher had three extra-base hits with a grand slam. In a career-high 7.0 innings, Volini held LU to six hits and one run. Fisher was 3-for-5, all extra-base hits.

The next day, FSU earned an 11-5 win as Mendes struck out a career-best 11 in 5.1 innings. Faurot had three hits and four RBI and freshman catcher Hunter Carns homered as part of a three-RBI day. Freshman first baseman Myles Bailey had a career-best four hits and Fisher added a double and a home run. Sunday’s game was canceled due to rain.
