Timpson Named Semifinalist for Naismith Defensive Player of the Year
TALLAHASSEE – Florida State senior Makayla Timpson was selected as a semifinalist for the 2025 Naismith Women’s Defensive Player of the Year presented by MOLECULE by the Atlantia Tipoff Club.
Timpson earned a spot on the watch list earlier this season and was among the 10 student-athletes chosen as semifinalists on Tuesday.
This season, Timpson has 99 blocks, besting her own single season blocks record, while leading Power 4 players with 3.2 blocks per game. She was an All-ACC First Team selection and was named All-Tournament Second Team for matching her career high with eight blocks against No. 14 North Carolina in the quarterfinal.
Timpson in the only player in the nation to have three eight-block performances this year and is one of six Power 4 players since 2002-03.
This season, Timpson averages 17.6 points per game, 10.6 rebounds per game and 3.2 blocks per game. In seven games against ranked opponents, Timpson is averaging 18.1 points per game while shooting 50 percent. She also averages 11.2 rebounds per game and 2.8 blocks per game.
Timpson also leads Power 4 players in stocks (steals+blocks), with 154.
The Edison, Georgia, native became the FSU career leader in double-doubles (46) and in rebounds (1,074), surpassing Natasha Howard’s marks in both.
