Fourth Quarter Surge Sails No. 6 Gators Past No. 23 Navy in 14-13 Victory
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Trailing 11-7 with 4:06 left in the third quarter, the No. 6 Florida lacrosse team used a 7-2 run in the final 19:06, capped by Jenny Markey’s game winning goal with 3:14 remaining to defeat No. 23 Navy 14-13. The Gators improve to 5-2 on the season, while Navy drops to 5-3.
The Gators led for just 5:27 of this one, overcoming multiple deficits, ending the game on a 3-0 run in the final 9:13.
Frannie Hahn recorded eight points without attempting a shot, dishing out eight assists. Her eight assists tie a game program record, set by Maggi Hall on March 6, 2024. It is her second game with eight or more points this season.

“She has set the bar really high,” said head coach Amanda O’Leary. “She’s exceeded all expectations for us. I couldn’t be more proud of her effort.”
Seven different Gators recorded goals, featuring six with two or more scores. Clark Hamilton led the way with three goals (fourth consecutive hat-trick), followed by two each from Kaitlyn Davies, Jordan Basso, Josie Hahn, Gianna Monaco, and Gabby Greene. Markey poured in one goal.
UF’s ability to protect the ball was key, winning the turnover battle 9-17, as Navy won the draw control 19-12. Davies and Ashley Dyer each recorded two caused turnovers, with six different Gators recording one overall.
How It Happened
First Quarter
- Navy came out strong, taking an early 2-0 advantage in the first three minutes of the game. The Gators responded with three straight goals, as Davies got UF on the board at the 8:05 mark off an eight-meter opportunity to make it 2-1. Monaco scored the next two goals (4:43, 2:36) off feeds from Frannie Hahn, to push UF in front 3-2 with 2:36 to play.
- 2:13 later, Navy scored twice in the final 23 seconds, to take a 4-3 lead after one.
Second Quarter
- The Frannie Hahn to Josie Hahn connection at the 12:00 point tied the game at 4-4, before two consecutive scores from Navy’s Alyssa Chung put the Gators down 6-4 with 5:04 to play.
- Greene scored on a free-position opportunity with 3:50 left, followed by a Midshipmen goal at the 1:43 mark to push the score to 7-5.
- Hamilton tacked on a crucial goal off a free-position shot with nine seconds remaining, to pull the Gators within 7-6 at the half.
Third Quarter
- Greene kicked off the second half scoring, off the feed from Frannie Hahn to tie it back up at 7-7 with 10:48 to play.
- The Midshipmen racked up four consecutive goals in a 5:12 time frame, to create their largest lead of the game at 11-7 with 4:06 left.
- UF scored two goals in the final 1:52, started by a score from Davies passed by Basso, and a goal from Basso dished by Frannie Hahn to cut the score to 11-9 after three.
Fourth Quarter
- Hamilton started off the fourth quarter scoring with back-to-back goals in the first five minutes, off an eight-meter opportunity and an unassisted goal to tie the game for the fourth time at 11-11 with 10:34 to play.
- Navy responded 20 seconds later with a goal, before putting in another with 9:13 to play to push the lead back to 13-11.
- With 5:40 remaining Josie Hahn and Frannie Hahn connected for the second time of the game, pulling the score to 13-12.
- 21 seconds later, after losing the draw, Davies caused a turnover to get the ball back, before Frannie Hahn found Basso around the crease where she found the back of the cage, to make it 13-13 at the 5:19 mark.
- With 3:14 to play, the Gators took their first lead since the first quarter, as Jenny Markey caught the pass from Frannie Hahn and swung it into the back of the net, giving UF a 14-13 advantage.
- Navy won the next draw control, before Dyer caused a turnover on Lola Leone to get UF the ball back. On the next possession, Monaco had her shot saved by Felicia Giglio with 26 seconds left to give Navy one last possession.
- After clearing into UF territory, Theresa Bragg iced the game causing a turnover on Navy’s Chung in the final seconds, as Josie Hahn scooped the ground ball to secure the 14-13 victory.
