Guiser Named SEC Freshman of the Week
It is the fourth freshman conference honor collected by the Gators this season; Addison Klonowski (once) and Siuue Wu (twice).
A native of Heartland, Wisc., Guiser became the first UF freshman golfer in 29 years to win the Gators Invitational in program history joining Riko Higashio (1996) and ninth freshman overall in the 53rd edition of the tournament. She is the 11th UF golfer to earn medalist honors at the home tournament and just fourth underclassmen: Annabell Fuller (2021) and Sandra Gal (2006).
Guiser shot a 54-hole score of 4-under 206 to defeat UCF’s Pimpisa Sisutham by a shot, who had won the event the last two years. Guiser logged all three rounds in the 60’s; 68-69-69. Entering the day one back of the lead and after starting with back-to-back bogeys in the final round, the freshman went 3-under with three birdies in her last five holes.
The Gators also claimed its fourth team victory of the season with a final tournament score of +9, defeating No. 11 Virginia (+11) and No. 14 Ole Miss (+13). Florida won the event for the 27th time in program history in the tournament’s 53rd occurrence, dating back to 1973. The Gators won the tournament for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons.
Across the last two seasons, Florida has won seven events while marking back-to-back seasons of three-plus victories for the first time since 2015-16 & 2016-17. The last time UF won four events in a season was the 2016-17 season when they won the SEC Championship and NCAA Regional titles.
The team victory was also the 35th all-time under head coach Emily Glaser; 36th total as she was an assistant coach for a season in 2011-12.
The regular season concludes at the Chattanooga Invitational (March 28-30) followed by the first leg of the postseason at the SEC Championship (April 14-18) at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla.
