TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 5 Florida State baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Boston College with a 6-2 victory on Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader at Dick Howser Stadium.

The Seminoles swept their first ACC series of the season and notched their fifth sweep in as many series to begin the 2025 campaign. The team has won three in a row after a 15-game unbeaten streak was snapped on Tuesday.

After a 14-0, seven-inning run-rule win in Saturday’s opener, FSU scored three in the first inning of Saturday’s nightcap and never looked back. Florida State added insurance runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth as sophomore left-handed starter Wes Mendes did not allow an earned run in a career-long 7.0+ innings.

The Seminoles (18-1, 3-0 ACC) scored their six runs on 10 hits while the Eagles (7-9, 2-4 ACC) were held to two runs on five hits. Both teams committed one error.

Mendes allowed just one unearned run in his seven innings to improve to 4-0 on the season. He gave up four hits and struck out eight with no walks. Junior right-hander Maison Martinez pitched the final 2.0 and earned his second save. He gave up one run on one hit with three strikeouts and no walks. This was the first time this year FSU’s pitchers did not walk a batter.

Offensively, junior center fielder Max Williams hit two home runs as part of a three-hit, three-RBI day. He added two runs scored in four at-bats. Three other players had a hit and an RBI, including junior second baseman Drew Faurot, who homered in the eighth. Junior shortstop Alex Lodise had a pair of base hits.

Williams was the second Seminole to homer twice in a game this series after Faurot achieved the feat in Friday’s series opener. The duo both have a team-high-tying seven home runs in 2025. Faurot has 28 long balls in his career and Williams has hit 21.

Junior right fielder Gage Harrelson was held without a hit for the first time this season, as he saw his career-long hit streak come to an end at 18 consecutive games. It’s the third-longest streak by an FSU player in the last 10 years.

Williams got the scoring started in the first with a two-run home run to right-center that brought in Lodise. Sophomore third baseman Cal Fisher scored the third run of the frame when he came home on a sacrifice fly by junior catcher Jaxson West.

Mendes was perfect in the first, needing just six pitches to retire BC. He struck out the side in the second and faced the minimum in the third with the help of a double play groundout that he began. Mendes continued to face the minimum with a nine-pitch fourth inning.

Boston College got on the board in the fifth on a dropped third strike, with an error on the throw to first resulting in an unearned run scoring. That made it 3-1 before Mendes threw out a runner attempting to steal third to end the threat and leave one stranded.

FSU added its first insurance run in the sixth when redshirt freshman left fielder Brody DeLamielleure singled up the middle to plate West. Williams’ second home run made it 5-1 in the seventh, as his solo shot to left came with two outs.

A leadoff double opened the eighth and Martinez relieved Mendes. The righty struck out all three batters he faced to leave the runner on third. In the bottom of the eighth, Faurot launched his third home run in two days to center to give the Seminoles a 6-1 lead.

A double-play groundout scored a run in the ninth, but Martinez got a lineout to finish off the win.

With Sunday’s series finale shifted to Saturday’s doubleheader, FSU’s 12-game homestand will wrap up against Mercer on Tuesday, March 6, at 6 p.m. ET. Tickets are available at Seminoles.com/Tickets or by calling the FSU ticket office at 850-644-1830.
