TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State women’s tennis team (10-4, 1-3 ACC) fell to No. 23 Notre Dame (13-3, 3-2) 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center. 

Florida State began the match by capturing the doubles point with wins on Courts 1 and 2. Millie Bissett and Kristyna Lavickova started the match down 3-0 before winning six of the next seven games, earning a 6-4 victory on Court 2. No. 84-ranked Eva Shaw and Maria Juliana Parra Romero secured the doubles point for the Seminoles with a 6-3 win on Court 1. The pair has won 10 consecutive matches, the sixth-longest doubles winning streak in FSU history.

Notre Dame captured the first singles point of the afternoon, tying the match at 1-1. Parra Romero took control on Court 5, earning a straight-sets victory over Carrie Beckman, 6-4, 6-1. After the Irish earned a victory on Court 6 to tie the match at 2-2, Eva Shaw delivered a dominant performance on Court 1, defeating No. 64 Akari Matsuno, 7-6 (6), 6-4. Shaw earned her first ranked victory of the season and improved to 4-0 in conference play. Notre Dame earned victories on Courts 3 and 4 to win the match.

Florida State concludes its three-match homestand Wednesday against Miami. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m. at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center. Admission is free to all Florida State home tennis matches.
