No. 18 Alabama Vaults into Lead on Moving Day at Linger Longer Invitational

GREENSBORO, Ga. – The No. 18 Alabama men’s golf team carded the team low round with a 4-under par 284 on moving day to vault into the overall lead after 36 holes of the Linger Longer Invitational. The Crimson Tide will enter Tuesday’s third and final round holding a five-shot advantage on the 16-team field with a team total of 15-under par 561 (277-284). 

All five UA golfers rank among the top 16 individuals, led by Nick Gross who carded the low round of the day at 6-under par 66 to move into third place overall at 5-under par 139 (73-66). Meanwhile, Connor Brown is in a tie for fifth overall at 4-under 140 (68-72).

The Crimson Tide will be going for its third consecutive team title at the event when the third round tees off Tuesday morning on the par 72, 7,436-yard Great Waters Golf Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee.

Individual Highlights

  • Nick Gross carded his best round in a Crimson Tide uniform as he finished the day with eight birdies with only two bogeys
  • Gross also earned a season low 36-hole total, bettering his former top mark by two strokes
  • Meanwhile, Connor Brown is also having a season-best performance, earning top marks for the year with Sunday’s opening round 68 along with 36 holes (-4, 140)
  • Both Gross and Brown had bogey-free back nines as each are tied for third in the field in total birdies (10)
  • Jones Free is in a tie for 12th overall with a 1-under par 143 (67-76)
  • Dominic Clemons (70-74) and Jonathan Griz (72-72) round out the starting lineup in a tie for 16th at even par 144
  • Clemons is tied for the lead among all golfers in the tournament in par 5 scoring (-6, 4.25)
  • Both Luke Coyle and Jack Mitchell are competing as individuals in the field
  • Coyle is in a tie for 56th at 8-over par 152 (74-78) while Jack Mitchell is in a tie for 61st at 9-over 153 (75-78)

Team Highlights

  • Alabama is in search of a three-peat, having won the previous two Linger Longer Invitationals, sweeping both the team and individual titles in 2023 and 2024
  • UA leads all teams in the field in total birdies (45) and par 5 scoring (4.50, -20), and ranks in a tie for second on par 3 holes (3.00, E)
  • No. 37 Georgia (-10) and No. 35 USF (-10) are tied for second, five shots back of the Tide
  • Elon (-3), which carded the second-lowest round of the day, is in fourth with No. 17 South Carolina (+1) rounding out the top five teams
  • Alabama (-4) and Elon (-1) were the only two schools to card a round of par or better Monday
