No. 22 Noles Set to Face George Mason in First Round of NCAA Tournament
TALLAHASSEE – The No. 22 Florida State women’s basketball team will take on George Mason on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The Seminoles, who are the No.6 seed in the Spokane 1 Region, have never faced the No. 11 Patriots in program history.
FSU is making its 12th-straight NCAA appearance, the seventh-longest active streak in the country and was one of eight team selected from the ACC.
Florida State entered the postseason having the highest-scoring Power 4 offense in the country at 87.2 points per game, led by Ta’Niya Latson as the nation’s leading scorer at 24.9 points per game. Latson was named a second-team All-America by the Associated Press, becoming the first Seminole in history to capture a first, second or third team honor.
Makayla Timpson currently leads the defense, being the only player in the country averaging at least 17.0 points per game, 10.0 rebounds per game and 3.0 blocks per game. Timpson also leads Power 4 players with 99 blocks this season. She also was named All-America honorable mention by the AP.
The game will air on ESPN2 at 7:45 p.m. The Seminole Sport Network will be available on 96.5 The Spear, Seminoles.com and Sirius XM, channel 138. The winner will take on either No. 3 LSU or No. 14. San Diego State on Monday.
