Last Updated: March 22, 2025By

STATESBORO, Ga. – Florida men’s golfer Luke Poulter built his individual lead to three shots at 8-under through 36-holes as the Gators are 11-under in T2 and one stroke back of host Georgia Southern at the Schenkel Invitational on Saturday.

After missing the fall due to an injury, Poulter is playing in his fourth straight tournament. He shot a second round of 3-under 69 this afternoon at Forest Heights Country Club to set up an opportunity for his first collegiate victory tomorrow. In his 12 rounds this season, six are for par or better. Across his 36-holes, he has made 27 pars (tied for tournament high), seven birdies, an eagle and one bogey. Poulter can become the sixth Gator to win the 45th annual event, joining Andy Bean, Matt Every Phil Hancock, Steve Scott and Bank Vongvanij.

The UF lineup shot a round two of 284 (-4) and tied for 2nd with Utah as the two will be paired with host and leader Georgia Southern tomorrow, teeing off at 10 a.m. The Gators will play for its sixth team title at the Schenkel Invitational, including defending the tournament title they won last season. Six victories would tie the most all-time at the event with Oklahoma State and Wake Forest.

Florida’s four counting scores all came at par or better with Matthew Kress carding the second-lowest behind Poulter. Kress produced a 1-under 71 to sit T6 and 4-under through two rounds. He closed his round with a birdie on the 18th, to finish in the red.

At the top of the lineup, Ian Gilligan (T8, -3) and Jack Turner (T46, +5) turned in rounds of even-par 72. Gilligan is tied with Poulter for tournament leading 27 pars. Turner improved five shots better from his opening round.

The non-counting score in the lineup was a 1-over 73 from freshman Zack Swanwick. He also bettered his round one by three strokes and is tied for 46th.

Competing as individuals this weekend, Parker Sands is even through 36-holes in T18 and Rylan Shim is +6 in T54.
