BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Alabama and Texas A&M battled back and forth Sunday afternoon at Davis Diamond in the series rubber match, with a six-run sixth inning giving the Crimson Tide a late lead before three in the bottom half of the inning ultimately proved enough to give the Aggies the 9-7 win.

Alabama (22-12, 2-4 SEC) trailed Texas A&M (26-5, 6-3 SEC) early after a first-inning RBI single before Larissa Preuitt tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the third. The Aggies started to pull away over the next three innings, scoring five unanswered to lead 6-1. Back-to-back walks and single quickly loaded the bases for the Crimson Tide to start the top of the sixth and Brooke Ellestad came up with the big hit, launching a grand slam to right to draw Alabama within a run, down 6-5. Later with the bases loaded again with one out, Salen Hawkins pulled a single through the right side to drive in two and give the Tide a 7-6 lead.

The lead was short-lived however as the Aggies answered right back to tie it in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single and eventually moved back in front by two runs with a pair of bases-loaded walks as the home team took a 9-7 advantage to the seventh. Alabama couldn’t mount a comeback in the top of the seventh, going down in order as the home team held on to win the game and take the weekend series.
