CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A seven-run fourth inning and 5.0 shutout innings by relievers helped the No. 5 Florida State baseball team to a series-clinching, 10-6 victory at Miami on Saturday night in Coral Gables, Florida.

The Seminoles (20-3, 5-1 ACC) won their sixth consecutive series to begin the season, their second in ACC play and their first overall on the road. They have won back-to-back series to open conference play for the first time since 2022, and are 5-1 or better to start league competition for the first time since 2016.

After the teams traded runs in the first two innings, FSU’s offense came through with seven in the fourth inning to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 9-3 lead. The Hurricanes (14-11, 1-5 ACC) answered with three in the bottom of the fourth, but the bullpen, led by sophomore right-hander Peyton Prescott, gave up just two hits with eight strikeouts in the final 5.0 innings to secure the win and road series victory.

In front of a sellout crowd in South Florida, many of them supporting the Garnet and Gold, FSU scored 10 runs on 13 hits with no errors. Eleven of the team’s 13 hits were singles, with one home run and one double. UM’s six runs came on eight hits with three errors.

Florida State improves to 164-137-4 all-time against Miami and evened the series again at 73-73-3 on the road. FSU has won five of the last six in the in-state rivalry series.

Prescott earned the win to improve to 2-0 in 2025 and 7-6 in his career. In a season-long 4.0 innings, he allowed just two hits with a season-high seven strikeouts and two walks. Prescott stranded runners on in each of his four innings, with runners left in scoring position on three occasions.

Offensively, junior right fielder Gage Harrelson and junior center fielder Max Williams both had two hits, three RBIs and a run scored to lead the way. Williams homered in the eighth inning, his 10th in 2025, 24th of his career and the fifth in the last five games. Three more players had two hits in Saturday night’s win.

For the third time in the series, and for the 13th time in 2025, the Seminoles scored in the first inning, as redshirt freshman left fielder Brody DeLamielleure reached on a bases-loaded fielding error with two outs to score junior shortstop Alex Lodise.

Miami answered to tie the game at 1-1 with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the inning, but FSU responded to regain a 2-1 lead in the second on Harrelson’s RBI single. However, the Hurricanes then scored a pair with two outs to take their first lead, 3-2, on a two-RBI single in the bottom half of the second.

FSU’s offense broke through with seven runs on eight hits in the fourth to take a 9-3 lead. Every hit was a single, beginning with three consecutive to load the bases. Junior third baseman Carter McCulley walked to bring in the first run and Harrelson drove in two immediately after with a single up the middle. With the bases full again, Williams singled through the left side to bring in another two. A double play followed, only to set up freshman first baseman Myles Bailey and junior designated hitter Jaxson West to deliver two-out RBI hits.

UM scored three in the bottom half on a solo home run and a two-RBI double with two outs. A strikeout ended the inning as Florida State held a 9-6 lead after four.

Fifteen runs through four innings, including 10 in the fourth alone, and both teams’ bullpens then proceeded to pitch three scoreless innings. For Florida State, Prescott came on in the fifth with the leadoff runner on and got all three outs while stranding two. He left one on in the sixth and another in the seventh.

Williams delivered a two-out solo homer to left-center in the eighth. That extended the lead to 10-6, and Prescott followed with another shutout inning in the bottom half.

Redshirt senior right-hander Joe Charles pitched a scoreless ninth inning to complete the win.

Florida State faces No. 13 Florida on Tuesday, March 25, in Jacksonville. First pitch of the top-15 matchup is at 6 p.m. ET. The game will be held at VyStar Ballpark (formerly Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville and 121 Financial Ballpark), the MiLB home of the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
