Four Noles Capture Academic All-District
TALLAHASSEE- Florida State women’s basketball players Makayla Timpson, O’Mariah Gordon, Carla Viegas and Amaya Bonner were selected to the 2024-25 Academic All-District teams on Tuesday.
Chosen by the College Sports Communicators who recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom, Timpson and Gordon will advance to the Academic All-America ballot that will be announced on April 16.
Timpson started all 33 games, setting the single-season program record for rebounds (350) and blocks (103). The Edison, Georgia, native also holds the FSU career rebounding record (1,094). This season, the All-American and All-ACC First Team honoree set career highs in points (38), rebounds (22), assists (4), steals (6), blocks (8), field goals (15) and free throws made (9). She is expected to graduate in May and is majoring in psychology.
Gordon closed out her FSU career with 87 starts, including 31 as a senior. The All-ACC First Team selection surpassed 1,000 career points this season, finishing her career with 1,382. The Sarasota, Florida native, set a career high of 34 points in the win at Miami, and she also secured her first-career double-double behind 19 points and 10 assists. She also set career highs in steals (7), blocks (2), three-pointers (4), and free throws (8). She is majoring in sport management and will graduate in May.
Viegas started 17 games, appearing in all 33. The Spaniard connected on 63 three-point shots, finishing the season shooting 43 percent from three. She set career highs in points (18), assists (3), field goals (6) and three-pointers made (6) as a sophomore. She is majoring in media and communication studies.
Bonner appeared in 32 games as a junior, making three starts. In reserve, Bonner was +40 on the stat sheet in the win over George Mason in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, after dishing a career-high six assists and three steals. The Fremont, California, native, also provided a spark on defense throughout the season, securing a season-high 83 rebounds. She is majoring in sport management.
To be eligible, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average, and schools can only submit four nominees.
