TALLAHASSEE – Florida State’s Jamir Watkins, who earned All-ACC Second-Team Honors on the basketball court this past season, has now earned Academic All-District Honors for his performance in the classroom. Watkins is one of seven players from the ACC and the only player to be named to the First, Second, or Third Team All-ACC teams and to the CSC Academic All-District Team.

Watkins, who holds a cumulative grade point average of 3.56 in social science, is scheduled to walk with the Florida State class of 2025 in graduation ceremonies on May 3, 2025 in his college basketball home at the Donald L. Tucker Center.

Throughout his career, Watkins has earned numerous academic honors. He was named to the 2020 Academic Honor Roll at VCU, was named to the 2024 All-ACC Academic Men’s Basketball team, the 2024 ACC Academic Honor Roll, the 2024 NABC Academic Honors Court, and earned FSU Academic Dean’s List honors in the fall of 2024.

“My academic success in college has been very important to me and my family,” said Watkins. “It will be especially important to my family when I finish my requirements and am presented with my degree during graduation ceremonies in May.

“I will be the first player in my family to earn a college degree. I want to show the younger members of my family that they, too, can earn a college degree.”

Watkins often said during the 2024-24 season that the reason he changed his uniform number to No. 1 was because he would be the first person in his family to earn a college degree.

Watkins led the Seminoles and is ranked fifth in the ACC in scoring with his career-high 18.4 points per game scoring average. He led Florida State with 53 3-point field goals made, finished as the Seminoles’ co-leader in steals with 38, was second in rebounds with a 5.7 rebound per game average and averaged a career-high 30.9 minutes played per game.

Watkins surpassed both the 1,500 career point mark for his career and became the 50th player in school history to score 1,000 or more career points this past season.

atkins was selected as CSC Academic All-America finalist, advances to the national ballot, and is eligible to earn Academic All-American honors.
