TALLAHASSEE – The No. 8 Florida State softball team (31-5, 7-0) continued its perfect start in ACC play with a 6-1 win over NC State (21-13, 4-6) on Friday night at JoAnne Graf Field.

Annabelle Widra got the start in the circle and set the tone early, allowing no hits in the first inning while recording a strikeout.

The Seminoles’ offense came out hot in the bottom of the first. Isa Torres started with a double and advanced to third on a passed ball. Jaysoni Beachum hit a ground ball to second, and Torres forced a rundown but safely slid into third while Beachum advanced all the way to second to put two runners in scoring position. Michaela Edenfield delivered a clutch double that brought home Torres and Beachum to give the Noles a 2-0 lead. Katie Dack then singled to drive in Edenfield, extending the lead to 3-0.

NC State threatened in the second inning with two hits, but Widra kept the Wolfpack off the scoreboard. In the bottom half, Angelee Bueno singled and was replaced by pinch runner Amaya Ross, who promptly stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Isa Torres then blasted a home run to left field, bringing Ross home and pushing the lead to a commanding 5-0.

The Seminoles maintained their 5-0 advantage until the sixth inning when NC State finally broke through with a solo home run. Coach Alameda called on Jazzy Francik from the bullpen to close things out. Francik retired six out of the seven batters she faced to end the game.

Widra went five innings and allowed just four hits and one earned run while striking out two to improve to 7-1 this season.

Torres led the way offensively with three hits for 21st multi-hit game of the year and her eighth game of the year with three or more hits.

Game two of the series will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow on ACCNX.
