Alabama Captures a Trio of 200 Free All-America Honors at NCAA Championships
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Alabama saw a trio of 200 freestyle swimmers earn All-America honors on the third night of the Men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
Highlighted by a fourth-place finish and school-record performance from Charlie Hawke, all three of the Tide’s swimmers boasted a career-best performance during the day’s event. Kaique Alves used a career-best time in the finals to finish 10th-overall in the 200 freestyle, while Toni Dragoja secured a personal best in the prelims before finishing 14th in the finals.
After the third day of competition, the Crimson Tide is in 11th place with 68 points.
Meet Notes
- Alabama joined California as the only two teams to place three athletes in the finals of the 200 freestyle
- Hawke’s fourth-place finish tied his performance from a year prior, securing his second consecutive first-team honor and third overall in the event
- Additionally, Hawke recorded his third school record at the meet, bettering his 200 freestyle time (1:30.14), while also setting the school record in the 800 freestyle relay (6:06.59) and 500 freestyle (4:09.52)
- Kaique Alves posted a career-best 200 free time in the finals, lowering his time to a 1:31.57
- Dragoja also bettered his career-best time in the 200 freestyle, recording in 1:31.88 in the prelims to improve his No. 3 spot on UA’s all-time top-10 list
- Alves also earned All-America honors in the 200 freestyle last year (ninth place), while Dragoja secured his first-career individual All-America honor
