Florida Falls in Road Battle to No. 10 Oklahoma

Last Updated: March 30, 2025By

NORMAN, Okla.– The Florida Gators faced a tough challenge on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-0 to the No. 10 Oklahoma Sooners. Despite showing moments of strong play, the Gators were unable to overcome the Sooners’ depth on their home courts. Florida now holds an overall record of 8-9 and stands at 4-7 in SEC play.

Doubles Action:

Florida looked to start strong in doubles play, but the Sooners quickly took control. The Gators suffered an early setback with a forfeit on court three to give Oklahoma an immediate advantage. The Sooners solidified the doubles point with a fast 6-1 victory on court one. Oklahoma’s Alina Shcherbinina and Julia Garcia Ruiz defeated Noémie Oliveras and Talia Neilson-Gatenby to take the 1-0 lead.

The doubles contest on court two, featuring Bente Spee and Reagan Parker, remained unfinished. When the match was called, Oklahoma’s Salakthip Ounmuang and Chloe Noel led 4-1 over the Gators.

Singles Play:

Facing a deficit heading into singles play, Florida fought to shift the momentum but was unable to close the gap before Oklahoma secured the win. The Sooners struck first in singles on court six, where Gloriana Nahum won by forfeit over No. 91 Alicia Dudeney.

Oklahoma then extended its lead as Ava Catanzarite claimed a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Reagan Parker on court five. The match was then ultimately clinched on court four, where Noémie Oliveras put up a strong fight but fell 6-2, 6-4 to No. 70 Emma Staker, sealing the Sooners’ 4-0 win.

With the outcome decided in favor of the Sooners, the remaining matches were left unfinished. On court one, No. 39 Rachel Gailis was battling No. 26 Alina Shcherbinina. Gailis fell 6-1 in the first set but held a 4-3 lead in the second. Talia Neilson-Gatenby stood in the opposite position, taking the first set 7-5 against No. 19 Julia Garcia Ruiz but trailed 4-0 in the second. Meanwhile, Bente Spee was in a tight contest with No. 103 Salakthip Ounmuang, leading 5-4 in the second set after dropping the first 6-1.

Overall, the Gators continue to put up a strong fight against fellow SEC opponents, but have struggled to remain healthy. UF’s shorten roster due to injury has remained their biggest challenge of the 2025 season, but their determination and grit has remained consistent.
