TALLAHASSEE – The No. 8 Florida State (33-5, 9-0) softball team swept the NC State Wolfpack (21-15, 4-8) with a 7-4 win in the final game of the series. The Seminoles are now on a 13 game winning streak with victories in 22 of their last 24 games, all while remaining undefeated in ACC matchups. FSU and Northwestern are the only Power Four teams in the country to be undefeated in conference play.

After a lengthy delay due to poor field conditions, the Wolfpack jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first during a two out rally to make it a 3-0 game.

Isa Torres drew a leadoff walk, but the Seminoles were unable to produce any runs in the first.

Pitcher Annabelle Widra entered the circle for Florida State to start the second inning and retired the side in order to set up the inning for the Seminole offense.

FSU was able to match the Wolfpack offensively in the second. Katie Dack and Amaya Ross walked, followed by Angelee Bueno getting hit by a pitch. With the bases loaded, Annie Potter stepped up to plate, but after one pitch, the game was paused due to rain and poor field condition. Just over 10 minutes later, Potter crushed a double over the center fielder’s head to cut the lead to one. Torres walked again to load the bases for Jaysoni Beachum who hit a ball to third, but the throw home was dropped allowing Bueno to slide in safely to tie the game.

The Wolfpack threatened in the top of the third when a walk and a passed ball put a runner on second. Michaela Edenfield made a clever throw down at second base to catch the runner off the bag to record the second out of the inning and take back the momentum.

Widra continued to sit down the Wolfpack in the fourth inning as she needed just six pitches to retire the side in order

Potter laid down a smooth bunt single to lead off the fourth inning. Torres singled through the right side and a walk from Beachum loaded the diamond again for FSU. Edenfield rose to the occasion with a rocket up the middle to give the Noles a 5-3 lead.  Dack hit a groundball deep enough in the infield to score Beachum to extend the lead to three.

Following a scoreless fifth inning, NC State put a run on the board and threatened with more as the loaded the bases with one out. Ashtyn Danley was called on from the bullpen and struck out the first batter she saw on four pitches and recorded a groundout to get out of the jam.

Torres led off the bottom of the sixth inning with an infield single. Torres stole second to put herself in scoring position, and Jahni Kerr brought her home with a single to give the Noles an insurance run. Kerr continues her hot streak as she extended her hitting streak to 12 games today.

Danley had no problem retiring the Wolfpack in order to give FSU another series sweep. Danley earned her second save of the season after retiring all five batters she faced. Annabelle Widra was credited with the win to improve to 8-1 as she went 4.1 innings and allowed one earned run on four hits.

The Seminoles will host the Florida Gators for a top 10 matchup at the Plex on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on ACCNX.
