Lodise and Volini Named ACC Player and Pitcher of the Week

Last Updated: March 31, 2025By

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State baseball junior shortstop Alex Lodise and redshirt junior left-handed starter Joey Volini have been named the ACC’s Player and Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

The duo are FSU’s first ACC weekly award recipients of the season, and both Lodise and Volini receive the weekly honor for the first time in their careers. The Seminoles are the first team to sweep the weekly awards since the 2023 season, and they earn the ACC sweep for the first time as a program since 2011.

Lodise is recognized after a week that was highlighted by a cycle with a walk-off grand slam, while Volini improved to 7-0 with his second consecutive seven-inning complete game.

In four games from March 25-30, Lodise hit .500 (10-for-20) with 10 hits, eight RBI, four home runs and a 1.300 slugging percentage. A St. Augustine, Florida, native, he hit for his first career cycle, and FSU’s first since 2019, on March 25 against Florida in Jacksonville with a walk-off grand slam to complete the feat in the 8-4 win. At Notre Dame from March 28-30, Lodise hit three more home runs and notched four RBI on six hits.

Lodise leads the ACC with a .466 batting average, a .871 slugging percentage, 54 hits and 101 total bases. He is second with 14 doubles and 12 home runs.

Volini threw his second consecutive seven-inning complete game in FSU’s 4-2 win at Notre Dame on Sunday. He struck out a career-high-tying seven batters and held ND to two runs on four hits with two walks. From Tampa, Florida, Volini improved to 7-0 in seven starts in 2025 and is Florida State’s first starter to begin a season 7-0 or better since Michael Hyde went 8-0 in eight starts in 2008.

On the season, Volini leads the conference with seven wins, a 1.25 ERA and 43.1 innings pitched and is second with 63 strikeouts. He has allowed six earned runs on 26 hits with nine walks.

Lodise was named to the All-ACC Academic Team and the ACC Academic Honor Roll last season. This is his second career Player of the Week award, after he also collected ASUN Player of the Week accolades as a freshman in 2023 at North Florida. In his first season at Florida State, Volini earned his first weekly honor in any conference.

Lodise, Volini and the Seminoles return home to face Jacksonville and Wake Forest this week at Dick Howser Stadium. FSU hosts JU on Tuesday, April 1, at 6 p.m. ET. Florida State welcomes Wake Forest to Tallahassee from April 4-6. The series begins on the ACC Network on Friday, April 4, at 8 p.m. ET, followed by a 4 p.m. contest on Saturday, April 5 on ACCNX. Sunday’s finale is at 1 p.m., also on ACCNX. Tickets are available at Seminoles.com/Tickets or by calling the FSU ticket office at 850-644-1830. Admission is free for all FSU students with their I.D.
