No. 14 Alabama in Fourth through 36 Holes of the Maridoe Intercollegiate
CARROLLTON, Texas – The No. 14 Alabama men’s golf team is in fourth place after 36 holes played at the Maridoe Intercollegiate on Monday afternoon. The Crimson Tide ended the day with a team total of 10-over par 586 (298-288) on the par 72, 7,388 Maridoe Golf Club course.
Jones Free and Jonathan Griz are both inside the top 15 individuals entering Tuesday’s final round of play to lead Alabama. Free ended the day in a tie for eighth at even par 144 (73-71), while Griz is in a tie for 12th with a 2-over 146 (75-71).
Individual Highlights
- All five Alabama starters rank inside the top 35 individuals
- Jones Free is in eighth overall after carding a 1-over par 73 in round one and 1-under par 71 in round two
- Free is tied for fifth on par 4 holes through two rounds (E, 4.00)
- After not recording a birdie in the opening round, Jonathan Griz finished round two with four birdies and three bogeys
- Nick Gross is in 26th with a 4-over par 148 (75-73) while Connor Brown is a stroke back at 5-over 149 (75-74) to end the day in 29th
- Dominic Clemons rounds out the UA starters in a tie for 34th with a 6-over 150 (77-73)
- Jack Mitchell, who is competing as an individual is in 74th overall with a 160 (81-79)
Team Highlights
- No. 7 Oklahoma (-8) leads 13-team field and is the only squad that finished the day under par
- No. 3 Arizona State (+6) and No. 4 Oklahoma State (+6) are tied for second, 14 strokes behind the Sooners
- UNCG (+13) rounds out the top five teams
