Gators Primed for Thursday Contest Against Georgia

Florida will host rival No. 26 Georgia on Thursday evening

GAINESVILLE, Fla.– Florida returns to the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex to face No. 26 Georgia on Thursday, April 3. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m. with doubles action and singles will follow immediately after.  
 
The Orange and Blue enter Saturday’s match with an 12-8 overall record and 7-4 in conference play. Florida’s last outing was a 5-2 loss against Mississippi State. The Bulldogs secured the double point and took courts one through four to close out the match.UF’s two points came from courts five and six, with freshman Niels Villard opening the scoring column for the Gators with a 6-2, 6-1 match win against Ferrer Guimaraes. Kevin Edengren followed, posting a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Dusan Milanovic.

The Bulldogs come into Gators territory with a 14-7 overall record and 7-3 in conference action. Georgia’s last outing was a 5-1 win over non-conference opponent North Carolina A&T. UGA sits at No. 26 in the ITA rankings and has three players ranked in singles, No. 27 Ryan Colby, No. 32 Thomas Paulsell, and No. 43 Miguel Perez Pena. In doubles, the Bulldogs are represented by Paulsell and Colby at No. 17, Freddy Blaydes and Niels Ratiu at No. 47, and Perez Pena and Oscar Pinto Sansano at No. 60.

ITA RANKINGS
As a team, Florida cracked into the ITA rankings sitting at No. 32. Two Gators are ranked in singles competition: Jeremy Jin at No. 68 and Adhithya Ganesan at No. 95. UF also has two ranked doubles pairs. Tanapatt Nirundorn and Henry Jefferson  sit at No. 23, followed by Nirundorn and Ganesan at No. 70.
