Three Noles Named to Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Three Florida State baseball starting pitchers have been named to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, USA Baseball announced on Thursday.
 
Redshirt junior left-hander Joey Volini, junior lefty Jamie Arnold and sophomore left-hander Wes Mendes are honored on the 45-player midseason watch list.
 
Players not named to the watch list are still eligible for consideration for the award given to the nation’s top collegiate or high school baseball player, leading up to the announcement of the semifinalists on May 18
 
Florida State is one of three schools with three players on the 2025 midseason watch list, while another four programs have two. FSU has three of 12 representatives from the ACC.
 
Arnold is one of 19 players who was recognized on the preseason watch list, while Mendes and Volini join 24 others who are new to the list. Arnold and two others are back on the list after being named semifinalists a season ago and he joins three more who were named to the 2024 midseason watch list.
 
Volini leads the country with seven victories and is second with two complete games. He is fourth with a 1.25 ERA, sixth with a 0.81 WHIP and seventh with 63 strikeouts. Volini also is 17th in the NCAA with a 7.00 strikeout-to-walk ratio, 21st with 13.08 strikeouts per nine innings and seven starts and 24th with 5.40 hits allowed per nine innings.
 
In 43.1 innings pitched in 2025, Volini has allowed six earned runs on 26 hits with nine walks in his inaugural season at FSU. He is the Seminoles’ first starter to win his first seven starts since Michael Hyde went 8-0 in eight starts in 2008.
 
Arnold is 3-1 with a 3.07 ERA, 38 strikeouts, 11 walks and 10 earned runs on 19 hits in 29.1 innings. He has made six starts and held opponents to a .186 batting average.
 
Mendes ranks No. 17 in the NCAA with 13.37 strikeouts per nine innings and he is 21st with seven starts and 26th with 52 strikeouts. He has a 2.83 ERA with 11 earned runs on 26 hits with 13 walks.
 
Florida State also was bestowed with several other midseason accolades this week.
 
Junior shortstop Alex Lodise was named the Midseason Player of the Year by Perfect Game and the Midseason Top Player by D1Baseball. He earned Midseason First Team All-America honors from both outlets.
 
Lodise leads the nation with 56 hits and 103 total bases and is fifth with a .463 batting average. He is 12th with a .851 slugging percentage and 24th with 11 home runs.
 
Volini also earned Midseason First Team All-America distinction by D1Baseball and Perfect Game. Arnold collected Midseason Second Team All-America accolades by Perfect Game.
 
Freshman first baseman Myles Bailey was honored with Midseason First Team All-Freshman accolades by Perfect Game.
 
In a matchup between two of the top five teams in the ACC standings, the No. 4 Florida State baseball team hosts Wake Forest from April 4-6 at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida. The series begins on the ACC Network on Friday, April 4, at 8 p.m. ET, followed by a 4 p.m. contest on Saturday, April 5. Sunday’s finale is at 1 p.m.

Limited tickets for FSU students remain available, and admission is free for FSU students with their I.D. at the Haggard Plaza right field gate.
