TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 4 Florida State baseball team suffered a 12-0 loss to Wake Forest in seven innings on Saturday afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida.

The loss evens the three-game series between two of the top five teams in the ACC standings coming into the weekend, with the deciding game set for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. FSU will play for its eighth consecutive series win, and fourth in the ACC, to begin the 2025 season.

The Seminoles (25-5, 8-3) were shut out for the first time this year and had three hits. The Demon Deacons (22-10, 8-6 ACC) scored their 12 runs on 13 hits.

Redshirt junior left-hander Joey Volini suffered his first loss of his Seminole career after he started the season 7-0 in his first seven starts. Volini allowed seven runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts in 2.1 innings. It was the first time this year Volini allowed more than two runs and did not pitch into at least the fifth inning.

Junior right fielder Gage Harrelson had two hits to lead the team offensively.

Wake Forest scored one in the first on an RBI single and another in the second with a leadoff home run. A five-run third came with a three-run home run and back-to-back run-scoring singles. In the fourth, four runs scored on a wild pitch and a two-out, three-run homer.

Redshirt freshman left-hander Payton Manca retired the side in order in the fifth and left one on in a scoreless sixth. In 3.0 innings, he allowed one run on one hit with four strikeouts and a walk.

WF added its final run in the seventh on a two-out single to center.

The Seminoles put two on in the second, on a two-out error and single, but a strikeout ended the inning. Two reached in the FSU sixth, though a double play and a fielder’s choice groundout halted the threat.

The series concludes on Sunday, April 6, at 1 p.m. Tickets are available for at Seminoles.com/Tickets or by calling the FSU ticket office at 850-644-1830.
