While the team is coming off its first series loss of the season, the Seminoles won their first three ACC series and got off to their best conference start since 2016. A pair of defeats last weekend were Florida State’s first back-to-back losses in 2025 and snapped a stretch of eight consecutive series wins to open the campaign.

SERIES HISTORY VS. FLORIDA
Florida State is 135-128-1 all-time against Florida with a 51-68 record in Gainesville, a 72-43-1 mark in Tallahassee and a 13-16 record at a neutral site. Tuesday is the 2025 rubber match between the two in-state rivals, after UF claimed the opener on March 11 at Dick Howser Stadium and FSU earned a dramatic walk-off win on March 25 in Jacksonville. FSU won all three meetings in 2024 after Florida won the previous four. Since 2020, when the Seminoles won that year’s only game, the series is knotted at 7-7, though Florida State has won four of the last five. The rivalry also is an even 4-4 since head coach Link Jarrett‘s arrival for the 2023 season.
On March 11 in Tallahassee, FSU suffered its first loss of the season, 7-2 to No. 7 Florida. Facing its first ranked opponent, Florida State was held to a season-low two runs on six hits with one error. UF scored seven runs on eight hits with no errors. The Seminoles did not score first for the first time this season and trailed for only the second time. Junior infielder Drew Faurot and freshman first baseman Myles Bailey both homered in the game.
On March 25 in Jacksonville, Lodise hit a walk-off grand slam as Florida State defeated Florida 8-4. The walk-off grand slam gave the Seminoles a dramatic win and capped a five-run ninth inning. FSU led 3-2 entering the ninth before the Gators scored two in the top of the inning to take a 4-3 lead. In front of a sold-out crowd at VyStar Ballpark, Lodise’s grand slam was FSU’s first walk-off home run since 2022. The blast punctuated a four-hit, four-RBI day where he hit for the cycle, the first of his career and Florida State’s first since 2019. Lodise is believed to be the first player in college or professional baseball history to complete a cycle with a walk-off grand slam.
SCOUTING THE GATORS
Florida is 20-14 on the season, 16-7 at home, 4-6 on the road and 0-1 at a neutral site. The Gators are 1-11 in the SEC following a trio of home losses to No. 23 Vanderbilt. UF is 2-12 against top-25 opponents, with a win at then-No. 15 Ole Miss in the series finale on March 28 along with the March 11 win at then-No. 5 FSU. Florida’s top-25 opponents also have featured series at No. 2 Tennessee and vs. No. 4 Georgia.
The Gators are receiving votes in this week’s NCBWA poll.
UF has scored 253 runs on 328 hits with 52 home runs, 148 walks and 48 stolen bases. The Gators have a 5.72 ERA with 178 earned runs, 264 hits allowed, 367 strikeouts and 142 walks. Colby Shelton leads the team with a .360 batting average and 49 hits while Bobby Boser paces UF with 37 RBI and 11 home runs. On the mound, Aidan King has a 3.12 ERA in 34.2 innings and Liam Peterson has 54 strikeouts, also in 34.2 innings.
UP NEXT: TOP-25 WEEKEND SERIES
The Seminoles stay on the road for a top-25 ACC series at No. 25 Virginia Tech from April 11-13. The three-game set begins on Friday, April 11, at 6 p.m. ET, followed by a Saturday contest at 1 p.m. The finale in Blacksburg at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park is on Sunday at noon ET.
LAST TIME OUT: SEMINOLES SUFFER FIRST SERIES LOSS
In a matchup between two of the top five teams in the ACC standings, Florida State lost its first weekend series with a pair of defeats in three games to Wake Forest from April 4-6. FSU had won its first seven series to open the campaign, including three in the ACC. Off to its best league start in nearly 10 years, the Seminoles dropped back-to-back games for the first time in 2025.
In the opener on April 4, FSU recorded its second walk-off win in its last six games with a 5-4 win. Williams was the ninth-inning hero with an RBI single in front of a sold-out, energetic crowd that included the Marching Chiefs. The Seminoles led 4-0 in the fourth, but the Demon Deacons fought back to tie it with no outs in the seventh. FSU pitchers then stranded a combined five runners on base while getting the final nine outs to set up Williams’ walk-off hit. The FSU pitching staff helped Wake Forest strand 11 runners on base. WF’s leadoff hitters were 6-for-9 on the night but then 2-for-22 with runners on and 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Wake was held without a two-out RBI.
The series was evened with a 12-0 loss on Saturday. The Seminoles were shut out for the first time this year and had a season-low-tying three hits. Volini suffered his first loss of his FSU career. He allowed more than two runs and did not pitch into at least the fifth inning for the first time this year.
FSU lost Sunday’s finale, 17-2. Florida State was held to two runs on five hits. The home side led 2-0 after two before Wake scored four in the fourth, seven in the fifth and six in the eighth.
