Gators Ready for First Round of SEC Tournament vs. Alabama

AUBURN, Ala.– Following the conclusion of Florida’s 2025 regular season on Sunday afternoon, the Gators have arrived in Auburn, Ala. for the 2025 SEC Tournament. UF will initiate postseason play with a 3 p.m. matchup on Wednesday, Apr. 16, against the Crimson Tide.
 
Florida will face off against Alabama at the Yarbrough Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon and holds he higher seed at No. 12, compared to Alabama coming in at No. 13. Both the Gators and the Crimson Tide posted an SEC record of 4-11, however UF defeated Alabama when going head-to-head earlier this season to break the tie in tournament seeding.

GATORS LAST TIME OUT
The Gators last time out on the courts marked their final SEC home weekend with a 6-1 loss to No. 32 Ole Miss. Senior, Alicia Dudeney, earned the Gators’ lone point on her senior day, extending her singles win streak to 10. Florida started strong in doubles with Dudeney and fellow senior Bente Spee dominating on court one, but Ole Miss secured the doubles point after a win on court two and a UF default on court three. The Rebels carried that momentum into singles, winning five of six matches, including a top-30 battle where Emily Welker edged No. 27 Rachel Gailis to seal the overall victory on court one.

ABOUT THE CRIMSON TIDE:

Alabama will enter Wednesday’s match against UF after falling 4-2 to then ranked No. 4 Oklahoma in their last outing. The Crimson Tide took the initial lead over the Sooners, securing the doubles point with wins on courts one and three, but OU took back control in singles play. Oklahoma defeated Alabama on courts two, three, four, and five in singles to claim the home victory at 4-2. Alabama’s second and final point of their match in Norman came from court No. 6 as Margaux Maquet (UA) def. Gloriana Nahum (OU) 6-1, 6-4.

 

The Crimson Tide currently has one ranked player in singles, No. 38 Petra Sedlackova. Sedlackova holds an overall record of 15-11 and has gone an even 6-6 in SEC play. In the doubles category, Alabama is represented by the duo of Maria Martinez Vaquero and Maria Andrienko at No. 81.

GATORS IN THE RANKS:

The Gators currently sit at No. 47 in the ITA team rankings and have representation in both the singles and doubles categories. Gailis has moved to No. 30 in the singles ranks, and Dudeney has jumped an impressive 38 spots from No. 91 to No. 53 in the past month.

 

In doubles, Gailis and Dudeney  sit at No. 11 after their run to the final four of the NCAA Tournament in November. Dudeney is also ranked in doubles alongside fellow senior, Bente Spee at No. 22.
