SERIES HISTORY VS. VIRGINIA
Florida State is 62-34 all-time against Virginia and 30-10 at home, 20-16 on the road and 12-8 at a neutral site. FSU won the first eight games, beginning with an 8-6 triumph at home in 1972, and then won nine in a row from 1997-2000 to mark the longest win streak for either team. The two programs met twice in 2024, both FSU postseason wins, at the ACC Tournament and the College World Series. That came after UVA won all three in Charlottesville in 2023. The Cavaliers come to Tallahassee for the first time since FSU won two of three in 2021.
The first matchup last season was a 12-7 win on May 24 that sent FSU to the ACC Semifinals. Jamie Arnold got the win while allowing two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Lodise and Drew Faurot each had three hits and drove in a run in a seven-run seventh inning. In Omaha at the College World Series on June 16, Florida State posted a 7-3 win to avoid elimination. Lodise had another hit and RBI, a sixth-inning home run to cap the Seminoles’ scoring.
SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
Virginia is 20-15 on the season with a 12-8 record at home, a 4-4 mark on the road and a 4-3 record at a neutral site. The Cavaliers are 9-9 in the ACC, tied for seventh in the league. UVA is coming off a 10-3 loss to Liberty on Tuesday night after a series win at home vs. Pitt. Against top-25 teams, Virginia is 3-1 thanks to a home sweep of No. 20 Stanford and a neutral-site loss to No. 7 Oregon State.
In the national rankings, Virginia is receiving votes in the NCBWA poll.
Eric Becker leads the team with a .371 average, 53 hits, 16 doubles and 40 runs scored. Chris Arroyo has 34 RBI and eight home runs. On the mound, Bradley Hodges has a 1.17 ERA in 15.1 innings and five starts, while Jay Woolfolk’s 55 strikeouts have come in 45.2 innings with nine starts and a 4.34 ERA.
UP NEXT: IN-STATE MIDWEEK MATCHUP
Florida State welcomes in-state foe Stetson to Dick Howser Stadium on Tuesday, April 22. First pitch is at 6 p.m. ET. Tickets are available at Seminoles.com/Tickets or by calling the FSU ticket office at 850-644-1830.
LAST TIME OUT: ROLLING TO A MIDWEEK WIN
FSU scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 19-0 win in seven innings over USF on Tuesday night. Eight starters had multiple hits, four had multiple RBIs and seven scored multiple runs. Meanwhile, the pitching staff allowed just three hits and did not walk a batter to register its fourth shutout of the year. The Seminoles jumped out to a 7-0 lead after one inning and added a season high eight more in the fifth. The Bulls had single runners on base four times, but only once did they reach second base, in the first inning with two outs.
Sophomore third baseman Cal Fisher had two hits, four RBI and two runs scored and hit his fifth home run of the season. Junior second baseman Drew Faurot and sophomore left fielder Chase Williams both had two hits and two RBI, as Faurot scored twice and Williams once.
