Alabama Drops to a Ninth-Place Tie through 36 Holes of the 2025 SEC Men’s Golf Championship

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The No. 15 Alabama men’s golf team finished at even par in Thursday’s second round of the 2025 Southeastern Conference Championship. As a team, the Crimson Tide is tied with Arkansas for ninth overall at 1-under par 559 (279-280) entering Friday’s final round of stroke play.

The top eight teams will advance to match play on Saturday with the championship match coming on Sunday morning (starting at 6:30 a.m. CT) on SEC Network. 

Individual Highlights

  • Connor Brown led the Crimson Tide on day two, carding a score of 1-under par 69, going 2-under par on the back nine
  • Brown, who tied Dominic Clemons and Jones Free for the team lead in birdies on the day with four, is in a tie for 33rd overall even par 140 (71-69)
  • Free continues to lead UA, carding an even par 70 in the second round to end the day in a tie for 23rd at 2-under 138 (68-70)
  • Free leads the team and is tied for 12th in the field with eight birdies across 36 holes of champi
  • Nick Gross is a 1-over par 141 (68-73) through 36 holes while Dominic Clemons (73-70) and Jonathan Griz (72-71) round out the Alabama starting five
  • Griz recorded the team’s first eagle of the championship, sinking an eagle on the 565 par 5 15th hole – one of two eagles throughout the field
  • Gross is tied for fourth in the field on par 3 holes (2.75, -2)

Team Highlights

  • After combining to shoot a score of 6-over par on the front nine, the Crimson Tide responded with a combined 3-under total on the back nine
  • Alabama is tied for fourth as a team in par 3 scoring (E, 3.00)
  • No. 7 LSU (-26) carded a round of 17-under par on Thursday to vault into a tie for the overall lead with No. 2 Auburn (-26)
  • No. 6 Oklahoma (-18) is in third, followed by No. 17 Texas A&M (-15)
  • No. 31 Georgia (-7), No. 8 Florida (-6), No. 29 Mississippi State (-5) and No. 20 South Carolina (-5) round out the top eight teams entering Friday’s final round of play
