Two More First Rounders for Football
The streak of producing at least one first-round NFL draft pick continued last night as Tyler Booker was selected 12th by the Dallas Cowboys and Jihaad Campbell 31st to the Philadelphia Eagles. We have now had a first rounder in each of the last 17 seasons and 49 overall during that stretch.
School Record Drafted by WNBA
Last week we also had a record three women’s basketball players selected in the WNBA Draft. Sarah Ashlee Barker was first off the board for the Tide, going ninth overall to the LA Sparks. Aaliyah Nye then went 13th to the Las Vegas Aces and Zaay Green 32nd to the Washington Mystics. With the three picks, we’ve now had five players drafted since 2021.
Baseball Returns Home for Series with Missouri
Our baseball team is back in action at home this weekend with a three-game series against the Missouri Tigers. In last night’s opener, we erased a five-run deficit to come back and win 7-5. Game two will take place tonight at 6 p.m. CT while Saturday’s finale is scheduled for a 1 p.m. CT start. Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office or at Gate 3 on game days.
Softball Hosts Missouri in Final SEC Home Series
Hard to believe our regular season home slate will wrap up this weekend with the series against Missouri. Friday’s opener will begin at 6 p.m. CT, while Saturday’s first pitch is set for 8 p.m. CT and Sunday’s game on deck for a 2 p.m. CT start. Prior to Saturday’s game, our 50-year celebration of varsity women’s athletics will culminate with an on-field recognition, which will include several incredible alumnae who were able to attend. A limited number of general admission Brickyard tickets are still available for all three games.
Men’s Golf Heads into Final Round of Stroke Play at SEC Championship
Our men’s golf team is currently in action at the SEC Championship and is in the final round of stroke play at Sea Island Golf Club tied for ninth overall. The top eight teams following Friday’s third round will advance to match play on Saturday.
Track and Field Heads to Auburn for Tiger Track Classic
Our outdoor season continues Saturday on the Plains as track and field is set to compete in the one-day Tiger Track Classic. Field events will begin at 10:30 a.m. CT at Hutsell-Rosen Track while the track events are scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. CT start. Track and field will have one more meet, the LSU Invitational on May 3, before heading into the postseason with SEC Championships taking place May 15-17 in Lexington, Ky.
Kelly Curry Named to A STEP UP Assistant Coach Hall of Fame
Congratulations to women’s basketball assistant coach Kelly Curry for being named to the A STEP UP’s 2025 Hall of Fame class. Coach Curry has been an integral part of our coaching staff for the last 12 seasons and has had a decorated 27-year career at his four stops. He and the seven other honorees will be formally inducted on May 21 in Charlotte.
SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll
Congratulations to our 69 student-athletes named to the Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll. The SEC Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a 3.0 grade point average or higher and must at least be in their second year of academic standing. Combined with our fall honorees, we now have 207 honor roll recipients thus far for the 2024-25 academic year.
Bama Blitz
We want to take a moment to thank the 306 donors who contributed a total of $72,764 to the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund during the eighth-annual Bama Blitz on April 15-17. The generosity of these donors exceeded our goal of fully funding an annual athletics scholarship for the two-day online giving event. I’d also like to thank Rochelle & Michael Koslin and Stephanie & Chad Wheeler whose generous challenge and matching gifts were instrumental in our success. If you missed the opportunity to give during Bama Blitz and would like to support student-athlete scholarships, you can do so at crimsontidefoundation.org/ctsf.
University Spotlight
Next weekend, over 6,600 degrees will be awarded during UA’s Spring commencement ceremonies. Congratulations to all of those earning diplomas and becoming Alabama graduates.
