Florida Set for First SEC Road Trip

The Gators first face No. 16 Oklahoma on Thursday, and quickly turn around for a match with No. 15 Texas A&M on Saturday

 

NORMAN, Okla.– The Gators are on the road to battle in a Thursday evening contest against No.16 Oklahoma at the Headington Family Tennis Center in the first road match of conference play. This match-up marks the first time the two teams will face each other as members of the same conference. The contest is slated to start at 6 p.m. ET with doubles followed by singles immediately after.
 
Florida enters the match with an 8-5 overall record and 3-1 in conference play. The all-time series between UF and Oklahoma is in favor of the Sooners at 1-0. The last time the teams met was Feb. 19, 2017 at the ITA National Team Indoors Championships. Florida faced the Sooners in the third round and fell 4-2.

The Gators last contest was a 5-2 loss to No. 4 Texas in Gators territory. UF claimed the doubles point but was bested in singles only capturing one singles win.

The Sooners enter Thursday’s match with a 9-3 overall record and 2-1 in the SEC. Oklahoma’s last outing was a 4-3 home loss to Texas A&M.

Oklahoma has one singles player in the ITA rankings: No. 76 Oscar Lacides. Doubles pair, Lacides and Bruno Nhavene are the only ranked duo for the Sooners, sitting at No. 39.

ITA RANKINGS
As a team, Florida cracked into the top-25 sitting at No. 24. Three Gators is ranked in singles competition: Jeremy Jin at No. 62, Henry Jefferson at No. 90, and Adhithya Ganesan at No.95. UF also has two ranked doubles pairs. Tanapatt Nirundorn and Henry Jefferson  sit at No. 19, followed by Nirundorn and Ganesan at No. 68.
