Florida Struggles in Norman, Falls to No. 16 Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. — The Florida men’s tennis team came up short on Thursday evening at the Headington Family Tennis Center. The Gators fell 4-0 to No. 16 Oklahoma, recording their first road loss of conference play.

On the doubles side, Jeremy Jin and Henry Jefferson fell first for the Gators, dropping 6-1 to Kholo Montsi and Luis Alvarez on court two.

JanMagnus Johnson and Kevin Edengren faced Asahi Harazaki and Alejandro Melero on court three. The duo fell 6-3 sealing the doubles point for Oklahoma.

No. 68 Adhithya Ganesan and Tanapatt Nirundorn were leveled at 5-5 with #39 Bruno Nhavene and Oscar Lacides before the match was left unfinished.

In singles, the Gators had no response for the Sooners as they took courts four, six, and two. Nirundorn dropped his first match to Alvarez in straight sets on court four. The junior fought hard, but Alvarez proved to be a tough opponent as he fell 6-2, 6-4.

The Sooners third point came from a loss by Bradley Paliska on court six. Paliska faced Nhavene in a tough battle. The first set went into a tiebreak after being tied at 6-6. Paliska ultimately dropped the first set 7-6 and could not find his rhythm in the second, falling 6-1.

Johnson manned court two as he competed against Montsi. Johnson dropped the first set tiebreak 7-5, and fell 6-2 in the second. The loss secured the 4-0 win for Oklahoma.

Three courts went unfinished after the match was clinched. Edengren lost the first set 7-5 against Hasson, but the two were leveled at 5-5 before going unfinished.

Ganesan faced No. 76 Lacides and took the first set 6-3, but Lacides responded in the second taking a 6-4 win to force an extended set. Ganesan trailed 2-1 before the match was called.

Jefferson trailed Orel Kimhi on court three. Jefferson fell 7-6 in the first set tiebreaker, but led 5-4 in the second before going unfinished.

As a team, Florida cracked into the top-25 sitting at No. 24. Three Gators is ranked in singles competition: Jeremy Jin at No. 62, Henry Jefferson at No. 90, and Adhithya Ganesan at No. 95. UF also has two ranked doubles pairs. Tanapatt Nirundorn and Henry Jefferson  sit at No. 19, followed by Nirundorn and Ganesan at No. 68.
