No. 18 Alabama Remains in the Lead Through Two Rounds at The Hayt

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. – The No. 18 Alabama men’s golf team owns a seven-shot lead after two rounds of The Hayt following Sunday’s round of 13-under par 275. As a result, the Crimson Tide stretched its lead to seven shots over the field with a 36-hole team score of 22-under par 554 (279-275).

Four UA golfers are among the top 25 individuals entering Monday’s third and final round, led by Jonathan Griz and Jones Free. Griz, who held the clubhouse lead following Saturday’s opening round, is in second overall at 9-under par 135 (67-68), while Free, who finished with a 6-under par 66 on Sunday, is in seventh overall at 5-under 139 (73-66).

In addition, Dominic Clemons is in 11th at 3-under 141 (69-72) while Nick Gross is in 25th at even par 142 (75-69).

Second Round Highlights

  • Three Crimson Tide golfers broke par on Sunday, led by Jones Free (-6. 66), Jonathan Griz (-4, 68) and Nick Gross (-3. 69)
  • The second-round score of 13-under 275 matches a season-low team total for 18 holes, which was set in the first round of the Folds of Honor Collegiate
  • Free finished the day with seven birdies and just one bogey for his fourth round in the 60s and seventh round of par or better this season
  • He currently leads the field in par 3 scoring (-3, 2.63)
  • Both Griz and Gross also finished the day with one bogey while recording five and four birdies, respectively
  • Griz tops the field in total birdies (13) and is tied for the lead in par 4 scoring (-6, 3.70)
  • Conor Brown rounded out the Tide’s starting five in 40th position at 2-over 146 (70-76)
  • Jack Mitchell is competing at an individual and is in 11th overall with a 36-hole total of 3-under par 141 (71-70)

  • No. 18 Alabama leads the 15-team field that features 10 teams ranked inside the most recent Scoreboard national rankings
  • The Crimson Tide (-22) holds a seven-shot lead over No. 9 Virginia (-15)
