HOT START FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
Tuesday’s loss snapped Florida State’s 15-game win streak to begin the season, tied for the fourth-longest in team history. The Seminoles were one of two unbeaten teams left in the country entering the game.
For the first time in program history, FSU started back-to-back seasons at 13-0 or better, with this year’s 15-0 start going along with 2024’s 19-0 open. Florida State had two back-to-back years of 12-0 starts or better before the current two-year run eclipsed that, in 2007-08 and 2018-19.
Florida State was 15-0 for the fifth time in school history. The record start is 23-0 to begin to the 2007 campaign, followed by last year’s 19-0. The 2013 team opened on a 16-0 run while the 1975 club’s 15-0 mark was matched.
NOLES BY THE NUMBERS
Florida State has scored 142 runs on 191 hits with a .336 batting average, 23 home runs, 82 walks and 27 stolen bases. The pitching staff owns a 2.68 ERA with 42 earned runs allowed in 141.0 innings with 101 hits, 192 strikeouts and 56 walks.
Junior infielder Alex Lodise leads the team with a .424 batting average and 28 hits. Junior outfielder Max Williams paces the team with five home runs while junior infielder Drew Faurot leads the squad with 20 RBI. Junior outfielder Gage Harrelson has a hit in all 16 games. On the mound, junior lefty Joey Volini is 4-0 with a 1.16 ERA in four starts, and sophomore left-hander Wes Mendes is 3-0 with a 0.89 ERA in four starts. Volini and Mendes both have 35 strikeouts. Among relievers, sophomore righty Chris Knier has a 1.29 ERA in 7.0 innings and six appearances and junior right-hander Maison Martinez has 20 strikeouts and a 1.98 ERA in 13.2 innings.
NATIONALY-RANKED SEMINOLES
The Seminoles are in the top-five in every major poll this week, including at No. 5 in the D1Baseball top-25. They are No. 4 in the Baseball America, NCBWA and Coaches rankings and No. 5 according to The Athletic and Perfect Game. College Baseball Central has FSU at No. 3.
SERIES HISTORY VS. BOSTON COLLEGE
Florida State is 42-12 all-time against Boston College. FSU is 19-8 at home, 18-4 on the road and 5-0 at a neutral site. The series began in 2006 at BC, and FSU won the first 10 all-time and claimed 18 of 19 from 2010-2016. Under third-year head coach Link Jarrett, the series is even at 3-3. The Seminoles took two-of-three last season.
A year ago in Brighton, Massachusetts, Florida State won the opener 12-4 on April 5, 2024. Among returners, Faurot had two hits, Arnold got the win while allowing two earned runs with nine strikeouts in 7.0 innings and Connor Hults pitched a scoreless ninth. BC claimed a 7-6 win in 11 innings the next day as Williams had two hits and two RBI and Lodise drove in one with three hits. The Seminoles notched a 9-2 victory in the finale with the help of two hits and one RBI from both Lodise and Cal Fisher.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Boston College is 7-6 on the season, 6-6 on the road and 2-1 in ACC play after a series win at No. 9 Virginia from March 7-9. The Eagles scored five in the eighth in the opener to rally for a 7-4 win on Friday. The teams combined for 24 runs in the final three innings as UVA earned a 22-16 victory on Saturday. BC clinched the series with a 6-3 win on Sunday, with a three-run third being the difference.
Jack Toomey leads the team with a .383 batting average and shares the team lead of 18 hits with Vince Cimini, who has a squad-best 15 RBI. Kyle Wolff has four home runs. Joey Ryan has a 2.92 ERA in 12.1 relief innings, with four runs allowed on eight hits with a team-best 17 strikeouts.
UP NEXT: HOMESTAND CONCLUDES
FSU’s 12-game homestand wraps up against Mercer on Tuesday, March 6, at 6 p.m. ET. Tickets are available at Seminoles.com/Tickets or by calling the FSU ticket office at 850-644-1830.
LAST TIME OUT: SEASON’S FIRST DEFEAT
Florida State suffered its first loss of the season, 7-2 to No. 7 Florida on Tuesday night. Facing its first ranked opponent of the season, Florida State was held to a season-low two runs on six hits with one error. Florida scored seven runs on eight hits with no errors. FSU did not score first for the first time this season and trailed for only the second time, along with a half-inning deficit on February 26 at Jacksonville.
Faurot and freshman first baseman Myles Bailey both homered in the game, both their fourth in 2025. It was Faurot’s 25th career long ball. Harrelson led the team with two hits to extend his hit streak to a career-best 16 games, as he has hit safely in every game of his FSU career. Lodise saw his career-best 14-game hit streak snapped, but his reached-base streak was extended to 15 games.
