Hodo’s Grand Slam Guides No. 17 Alabama Baseball to 6-2 Win over No. 19 Texas A&M on Saturday

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – With two outs and the bases loaded in a 2-2 game, Will Hodo slugged the go-ahead grand slam in the final frame, as No. 17 Alabama baseball secured the series win over No. 19 Texas A&M as the result of Saturday’s 6-2 victory at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park. The win improves the Crimson Tide to 19-1 overall and 2-0 in Southeastern Conference play.

Hodo finished his afternoon 2-for-5 to go with four RBI. Justin Lebron produced a 3-for-4 effort, including a double, solo home run and three RBI. Coleman Mizell closed 2-for-4 with a pair of base-hits, while Brennen Norton was responsible for a double to encompass his 1-for-5 day.

Riley Quick took the hill for his fifth start of the spring, managing a career-best afternoon. The redshirt sophomore allowed just one hit and two walks over a career-high 5.0 innings, picking up a career-best six strikeouts while not allowing a run. Hagan Banks and Tyler Fay each surrendered an earned run over their 1.1 innings. Matthew Heiberger (2-1) entered in the eighth and earned the win after pitching the final 1.1 innings of the contest. The sophomore southpaw scattered one hit before inducing a game-ending double play to close the game.

  • T7 I Brady Neal and Richie Bonomolo Jr. reached base following consecutive Aggie errors before Bryce Fowler walked. With the bases loaded, Lebron lined an RBI single into left to bring home Neal. (2-0, Alabama)
  • B7 I Texas A&M found the scoreboard after a pair of one-out walks were followed by an RBI single. (2-1, Alabama)
  • B8 I The Aggies were hit by a pitch to begin the inning, while a fielder’s choice pushed the runner into scoring position. With two outs, Texas A&M produced an RBI single to level the score. (2-2)
  • T9 I With one out, Fowler reached base by way of an error before Lebron walked and Coleman Mizell singled. After a strikeout, Will Hodo lined a two-out grand slam to right to regain the Tide lead. (6-2, Alabama)
