Gators to Host Northern Iowa as No. 3 Seed in 2025 WBIT

Gators are not done yet for 2025, as they were selected to host Northern Iowa in round one of the WBIT.

Florida was selected as a top-5 seed in the 2025 WBIT and will host the UNI Panthers in round one of the postseason tournament on March, 20.

GAINESVILLE, Fla.– The Gators have earned a spot in the 2025 WBIT for the second consecutive year. Florida received a bid as the No. 3 seed on Sunday evening and will now get ready to host Northern Iowa (17-16, 11-9 MVC). Round one of the WBIT was slated for Thurs. Mar. 20, at 7 p.m. inside the O’Dome.
 
The Gators will take on NIU after last playing on Mar. 7 in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals. Florida fell 101-87 to No. 9 LSU despite having six players in doubles figures for scoring. UF’s loss to LSU ended their two-game run at the SEC Tournament for the second consecutive year.  

Northern Iowa will enter round one of the WBIT after falling to Belmont in the MVC quarterfinals. The Panthers were defeated 64-46 by Belmont and had two players hit double digits in scoring, Kayba Loube and Maya Mcdermott, both posting 12 points.  

 

The 2025 Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament championships will take place in Indianapolis at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The semifinal games are scheduled for March 31, 2025, and the championship game will be held on April 2, 2025. The top-16 teams will host first-round games and ESPN will serve as the television broadcast partner for all WBIT games.

Florida: 15-16, (5-11 SEC)

Northern Iowa: 17-16, (11-9 MVC)

SERIES RECORD:

The all-time series between Florida and Northern Iowa stands at 1-0 in favor of the Gators. UF and NIU’s only recorded matchup dates back to over a decade ago on Nov. 24, 2012. The sole contest was in Las Vegas and Florida defeated the Panthers 80-63.
