Snell’s Walk-Off Homer Pushes No. 12 Alabama Baseball Past South Alabama, 6-5

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Facing a 3-0 count with one out in the bottom of the tenth, Kade Snell blasted a walk-off, solo home run over the left field fence, pushing No. 12 Alabama baseball past South Alabama, 6-5, on Tuesday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The win improves the Crimson Tide to 21-1 on the season.

Snell led the Alabama offense with a pair of hits, including the walk-off homer, as part of a 2-for-4 night. Six other Alabama hitters recorded base-hits, including Will Hodo, who laced a three-run home run to right field in the fifth inning to encompass his 1-for-5 outing. Will Plattner was 1-for-3 with an RBI double and a walk, while Jason Torres finished 1-for-3 with an RBI single and two hit-by-pitch.

Eight Crimson Tide pitchers saw action in the victory after JT Blackwood worked a scoreless first inning with a strikeout. Coulson Buchanan entered the contest in the fourth inning, working a season-high 2.0 scoreless innings, striking out three Jaguars. Beau Bryans followed Buchanan and didn’t allow a run over his 1.1 frames, notching two strikeouts. Braylon Myers was perfect in his lone inning, striking out two as part of a scoreless eighth. Austin Morris (1-0) earned a strikeout while setting down all three hitters he saw in the tenth, as the sophomore right-hander earned his first win since April 23 of last season.

From Head Coach Rob Vaughn

“Not the prettiest of games, but I thought we were gritty and we were tough, That’s what we hang our hat on. Those first few innings, it seemed like every barrel was an out for both teams. Thought Coulson Buchanan did a great job of settling the game and letting us go to work. Will Hodo put a great swing on a changeup. He got it out over the plate and put a good swing on it. Austin Morris came in and was outstanding there in the tenth and and Kade Snell doesn’t flinch in a 3-0 count and runs it out of yard and the rest is history. Kind of an interesting game, but you love being on the side of it and I thought our kids were tough again tonight.”
