No. 14 Alabama Finishes in Fourth at Maridoe Intercollegiate

Last Updated: April 1, 2025By

CARROLLTON, Texas – Three golfers finished among the top 15 individuals to lead the No. 14 Alabama men’s golf team to a fourth-place finish on Tuesday at the Maridoe Intercollegiate. The Crimson Tide ended the tournament with a team total of 25-over par 889 (298-288-303) on the challenging par 72, 7,388 Maridoe Golf Club course.

Freshman Nick Gross tied for 10th overall as he carded a 4-over 220 (75-73-72) to lead Alabama. Jones Free closed play in 14thplace at 5-over par 221 (73-71-77) while Jonathan Griz was a stroke back in 15th overall with a 222 (75-71-76).

Head Coach Jay Seawell Comments

“This was a tough course and we were in tough conditions, but I wanted to take our guys out of their comfort zone. The conditions were certainly a challenge, but I thought we could have competed better, which was certainly disappointing. Oklahoma (tournament champions) handled it great, and they were able to win a tournament championship. We have to regroup and make sure we learn something from this tournament. We need to get better and get ready for the Mossy Oak Collegiate in a couple of weeks.”

  • Nick Gross carded the round of the day with his even par 72, one of just 35 rounds of par or better throughout the three-day, 54-hole tournament
