Alabama Accumulates Multiple Weekly Honors
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following Alabama track and field’s multi-meet weekend, the Crimson Tide amassed multiple weekly honors, it was announced Tuesday.
UA’s sophomore phenom Doris Lemngole was named the Women’s Runner of the Week by the Southeastern Conference and the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week after her showing at the Wake Forest Invitational in her women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase season debut. Her blistering time of 9:10.13 not only broke her own school and collegiate record, but also became the world-leading time thus far this season.
On the west coast, rookie Dismus Lokira garnered Men’s Freshman of the Week honors by the league after running a school-record-breaking time of 27:47.20 in the men’s 10,000m at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Lokira finished third overall and was the highest SEC finisher in his event. His 27:47.20 performance is now the fastest of the year by any SEC runner and is the eighth fastest nationally.
Through five weeks of outdoor competition, the Crimson Tide has notched five SEC weekly honors. Katelyn Adel (Women’s Freshman) received the weekly award on April 1, while Oussama El Bouchayby (Men’s Co-Runner) and Trevor Gunzell (Men’s Field Athlete) earned recognition the week of March 25.
