Chase Lee Called Up by Detroit Tigers
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Chase Lee, a member of the Crimson Tide from 2019-21, was recalled by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday, marking his first trip to the Major Leagues. His first game appearance will signify his MLB debut. The former Alabama reliever becomes the first Crimson Tide player to reach the big leagues since Tyler Gentry in 2024 and becomes the 71st player in program history to reach baseball’s highest level.
Lee appeared in 146 career minor league games prior to his first call-up, posting a 3.86 earned run average in 182.0 innings pitched. The Alabama native has produced a 12.3 strikeouts per nine innings mark since being drafted 164th overall by the Texas Rangers in 2021.

- Finished 7-0 in his final season in Tuscaloosa to tie for 10th in the Southeastern Conference in that category, matching Tyler Ras for the UA lead
- Made five relief appearances for the Crimson Tide in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, finishing with a 1-0 record and two saves
- Maintained a 1.64 ERA (2 ER/11.0 IP) as a sophomore and led all relievers with 19 strikeouts, good for third overall on UA
- Recorded a 2.67 ERA (9 ER/30.1 IP) and a 1-0 record in 2019
- Struck out 24 and only walked five in 22 relief appearances as a freshman
- Joined the Crimson Tide baseball team after spending his first year on-campus with the University’s club baseball team
- A standout in the classroom as well, earning CoSIDA Academic All-District IV First Team honors in 2021
- Garnered SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll selections each year as a member of the Crimson Tide
