Samuel Ogazi Secures SEC Weekly Honor
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama track and field earned its seventh weekly honor of the season, the Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday. Crimson Tide sprinter and 2024 Olympic finalist Samuel Ogazi was named the Men’s Co-Runner of the Week, the first weekly award of his sophomore campaign.
Competing at the Tiger Track Classic, in Auburn, Ala., Ogazi captured the event title in his 400-meter season debut, clocking 44.98. His first-place time broke the Hutsell-Rosen Track facility record and is currently the fifth-fastest time in the nation.
Through six weeks of outdoor competition, the Crimson Tide has notched six SEC weekly honors and one USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week accolade. Last week, Doris Lemngole (Women’s Runner, USTFCCCA National Athlete) and Dismus Lokira (Men’s Freshman) received weekly recognition. Earlier this season, Katelyn Adel (Women’s Freshman) received the weekly award on April 1, while Oussama El Bouchayby (Men’s Co-Runner) and Trevor Gunzell (Men’s Field Athlete) earned recognition the week of March 25.
